Less than a week after announcing a new partnership with Taiwan-based STARLUX Airlines, Etihad has announced the activation of its codeshare partnership with Ethiopian Airlines.

The Abu Dhabi, UAE-based Etihad announced the codeshare agreement which follows the Joint Venture agreement between Etihad and Ethiopian signed in March 2025.

Under the partnership, Etihad customers will be able to connect via Ethiopian's hub at Addis Ababa to 55 destinations across 33 countries with a focus in the African continent. Among the destinations covered in the agreement include Entebbe, Kinshasa, Kigali, Lusaka, Harare and Victoria Falls.

In return, Ethiopian's customers can make connections on Etihad-operated flights to 20 destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East via Etihad's Abu Dhabi hub. The destinations include Sydney, Krabi, Colombo, and Phnom Penh.

“By leveraging our combined networks, we are unlocking seamless travel opportunities between Africa and Asia, Australia, and the Middle East,” said Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, Etihad. “Easy connections via Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa, will enhance flexibility, boosting trade and tourism, and delivering unparalleled travel experiences to guests of both airlines."

The launch of the codeshare partnership comes ahead of the launch of flights between Addis Ababa and Abu Dhabi by both carriers. Ethiopian will launch its direct service on the route on July 15, followed by Etihad on October 1.
